Madelyn Miyashita (she/her) is a actor, singer, dancer, and musician currently based in Toronto. She has performed with theatre and dance organizations around the city and across the country. After graduating with honours from Sheridan College’s Bachelor of Music Theatre Performance program, Madelyn has gone on to work with The Shaw Festival (Funny Girl, One for the Pot, Anything Goes, The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe, Brigadoon, White Christmas), Theatre Aquarius (A Christmas Story: The Musical), Holla Jazz, and Fall for Dance North. As a musician, she plays the French horn, trumpet, upright bass, and is learning the trombone. As a choreographer, Madelyn believes dance is meant to service the orchestra and music, hence her instrumental background supports her drive for concentrated musicality.
Madelyn appeared in the Mark Ravenhill play, Ghost Story, as part of the 2025 Neil Munro Intern Directors Project at the Shaw. She is as passionate about new, contemporary work as she is about the plays that inspired many 1930’s/1940’s RKO Pictures (she has watched 30 Katharine Hepburn films to date). As far as dancing goes, she has been known to say “I eat MGM movie musicals for breakfast”. With over 20 years of experience, Madelyn is an energetic yet elegant dancer in a variety of styles. Long term, Ms. Miyashita wants to improve how artists and collaborators talk about dance in theatre and honour the legacy of Jazz as it influences movement in musicals.
As a human, she hopes to be challenged by the work she’s in, and lead a kind life in the world of stage and screen work.
